There are ways to study poker, improve your odds of winning, and play optimally to win more often. This theory is proven out by pros like Chris Moneymaker and Phil Hellmuth, who win more often than most others. We’re all going to get stacked by a gutshot straight draw that hits from time to time.

The producers' first choice to play the character of Danny Tanner was Bob Saget. Saget was not available to appear in the pilot due to his commitment as an on-air contributor to CBS's The Morning Program. Posey only appeared in the show's unaired pilot; which is included on the DVD release of Season 1. In season two, Danny is reassigned from his duties as a sports anchor by his television station to become co-host of the morning show, Wake Up, San Francisco, and is teamed up with Nebraska native Rebecca Donaldson.

She stepped back into the acting world in late 2021 and starred in a January 2023 TV film for Great American Family network. When playing with a standard deck, there are only four cards of each rank. This means there will never be a draw between two full houses, except in games where cards are shared (mostly flop games like hold’em) or wild cards are utilized. How to Play a Full House in Texas Hold’em

Full House is an American television sitcom that aired from September 22, 1987 to May 23, 1995, on ABC. The series was created by Jeff Franklin and executive produced by Franklin, along with Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett. It was videotaped live before a studio audience at the Lorimar Studios in Los Angeles. Last year the cast was in San Francisco to celebrate the season 2 debut of Fuller House on Netflix. The cast stopped by the Tanner house and put their hands and feet in the cement. A friend of mine visited the house recently and said that the hands and feet prints are not on display outside of the house.

Hands like A♥K♣Q♥J♠T♦️, Q♥J♦️T♣9♥8♠, T♠9♥8♦️7♣6♥, and 5♥4♦️3♣2♥A♠ all mark examples of a made straight. Note that the ace can act as the low card of a five-high straight or the high-card of an ace-high straight. In a battle between two straights, the hand with the strongest high card wins. When drawing five cards randomly from a standard 52-card deck, you have a 0.3925% chance of making a straight. This probability equates to 253.8-to-1 odds against drawing a straight.

And you’ll have someone to lean on for a confidence boost following losing sessions. In addition to getting dealt good hands from Lady Luck, poker requires mental toughness. He never gets upset about a bad beat, or at least he doesn’t show it, and it’s no surprise he’s one of the best of all-time.

The home shot to stardom along with the release of the original series featuring the fictional Tanner family, which ran on ABC from 1987 to 1995. And if you think that’s a hefty price, check out Jeff Franklin’s $85 million house in Beverly Hills, where Bob Saget’s funeral was held. This has naturally turned into heaps of fans swarming the San Francisco house, which didn’t sit quite well with Franklin’s neighbors, as the influx of fans disturbed the peace of the affluent, otherwise quiet community. The house on Broderick Street was out of the media limelight from 1995, when Full House ended, until 2016, when Fuller House started airing.

The key here is to put yourself in the best physical condition to play well over time. If you’re very talkative at the table but everyone else is quiet, you need to learn to adapt. All seven of the original cast members remained with the show through its entire eight-year run, with five characters added to the main cast along the way. D.J.'s best friend Kimmy was a recurring character in seasons one through four, who was upgraded to a regular in season five. One event combines a wine tasting with access to the nearby Button & Turkovich sunflower fields. In addition to apples and sunflowers, they offer u-pick fruit, u-press cider, a corn maze, petting, carriage rides and more as a part of their fall festival. The center (inside) of the house should have straw, grass, or some other material that’s pleasant for feet as this is the floor of your house. Keep the trenches evenly watered and as the bigger sunflowers grow, they may need some support such as stakes. When the sunflowers are reaching their mature height, take the twine or jute and tie it on to the first sunflower just below the flower head.

If you continue to drive along Currey Road, you will find other Northern California sunflower fields that are also photo-worthy. The Andreotti farm is a beautiful California sunflower farm with later-blooming sunflowers. The peak season at their farm is between the middle of September and the beginning of October. Peruse the list of sunflower fields in California below to find the perfect field for your sunflower adventure. Have you ever driven down the road and come across a bright yellow field of sunflowers?

When you’re done, you can head over to Farmer John’s Pumpkin Farm to pick your own pumpkin. They come in a wide variety, ranging from Cinderella and Fairy Tale pumpkins to Speckled Gourds and Atlantic Giants. Water them regularly, especially during the first few weeks after planting. Check out their Facebook page for regular updates on the status of sunflowers. Don’t go into the fields unless you have permission from the owner.

Pedrick Produce is a family-run produce market that sells everything from fresh fruit and veg to dried goodies and fresh tamales. His small business has been catering to Northern California for over 30 years. Sunflowers can be affected by a variety of pests and diseases, including aphids, caterpillars, powdery mildew, and rust.

And peak sunflower season in California can be as short as two weeks in the summer, so it’s frustratingly easy to miss your chance. They also have a picnic area where you can eat lunch or a snack before heading to the U-Pick Sunflower field to cut a bunch of sunflowers to take home. Since many of the sunflowers listed below are on private property and not officially open to the public, be respectful to the farmer’s crops.

Keep the trenches evenly watered, and as the bigger sunflowers grow, they may need some support such as stakes. Then weave the twine throughout the top of the entire structure—making sure to go across the entire open space—like you’re attempting to sew the top together. Sunflowers (Helianthus annuus) have an inherently happy disposition, with charming heads that follow the sun. They’re also quite handy for constructing houses, forts, walls, and mazes for kids. Sunflower structures are visited by butterflies galore, and the largest sunflower varieties grow leaves and flowers larger than your kid’s head!

Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum Key West, Florida

ernest hemingway house in florida

This home-turned-museum displays Hemingway’s personal belongings and the environment where he wrote several notable works. It was in this ornate, Spanish-style house that Hemingway wrote his 1929 novel A Farewell to Arms, as well as parts of Death in the Afternoon, Green Hills of Africa, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. When Hemingway moved from Paris to Key West in the mid-1920s on the advice of fellow writer John Dos Passos, he was a well-known author but not yet a legend.

The Hemingway Home as a Museum

From there I stand on the veranda and gaze down at the swimming pool, the first swimming pool in the city, and beyond that to the bungalow where, surrounded by animal heads and stuffed fish, he wrote in longhand. Writers have always loved the Keys, none more famous than Ernest Hemingway, who bought a beautiful Spanish colonial home at 907 Whitehead Street in 1931 and stayed eight years. The site where the pool is located was formerly the setting of Hemingway’s famous boxing ring, where he would spar with local amateur boxers such as Shine Forbes. Construction of the pool necessitated relocation of the boxing ring to the site now occupied by the Blue Heaven Restaurant on Petronia Street, a few blocks away. One of the more stunning and unusual features of the Hemingway Home property is the in-ground swimming pool, an extraordinary luxury for a residential home in 1930s Key West.

The Ernest Hemingway Key West home

After two seasons in Key West, Pauline’s Uncle Gus purchased the house on Whitehead Street for them in 1931. According to legend, a fellow sailor and ship captain gifted Hemingway with a male cat with six toes named Snow Ball. Polydactyl cats were popular among sailors for their both their rat-hunting skills and as a supposed source of good luck. Built in 1851 by the owner of a local ship salvage company, the house sat on one of the largest private lots in the city, and, thanks to its high elevation and sturdy construction, could withstand even the fiercest of storms. Ernest Hemingway was given a white six-toed cat by a ship’s captain and some of the cats who live on the museum grounds are descendants of that original cat, named Snow White. Key West is a small island and it is possible that many of the cats on the island are related.

The Hemingway Home Grounds and Architecture

Both a journalist and writer, Hemingway published seven novels; six collections of short stories, and two works of non-fiction. For his novel The Old Man and the Sea, he won the 1953 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1954. The Ernest Hemingway House and Museum property is famous for its population of polydactyl, or six-toed cats. The cats at the museum today are “living history” in a sense, as they are direct descendants of Hemingway’s own cats.

Large, round-top windows shine plenty of light into the striking yellow and black upstairs bathroom. Cement tiles patterned in a bird and fish motif add a dash of whimsy into the utilitarian space, while antique furniture pieces are reminiscent of the early twentieth century. Hemingway’s bathroom was one of the first on the island to be furnished with indoor plumbing and running water. Your choice of any book published by the Florida Historical Society Press. Influence and legacy

The home, now a museum, provides visitors a window into Hemingway’s life and writings, the very walls echoing with the history of his storied career. Soon after arrival, Hemingway made the acquaintance of Charles Thompson, who ran the local hardware store. Charles Thompson introduced Hemingway to the exciting world of big game sport fishing, and a long friendship was born. Charles and his wife Lorine entertained the Hemingways at their home on Fleming Street. Lorine Thompson proved to be as friendly and gracious as her husband Charles, and it was during those early days in Key West she and Pauline forged a friendship that would endure for the rest of their lives. Both Ernest and Pauline grew to love Key West and its inhabitants, and soon decided to look for a permanent residence.

Hemingway’s Influence on Literature

Hemingway was present with Allied troops as a journalist at the Normandy landings and the liberation of Paris. He maintained permanent residences in Key West, Florida, in the 1930s and in Cuba in the 1940s and 1950s. On a 1954 trip to Africa, he was seriously injured in two plane accidents on successive days, leaving him in pain and ill health for much of the rest of his life. In 1959, he bought a house in Ketchum, Idaho, where, in mid-1961, he died by suicide.

After Snowball had a litter of kittens, the captain gifted Hemingway with one whom he named Snow White. The Ernest Hemingway House, located in Key West, Florida, is a National Historic Landmark and museum dedicated to the life and works of famed American author and Nobel Prize-winning novelist Ernest Hemingway. It was his private residence from 1931 to 1939 and provides an insight into the literary genius who lived there with his second wife Pauline Pfeiffer, during some of the most productive years of his career.

She may enjoy having visitors who come to see the exhibits of her beloved’s work and his artifacts, as she is still his biggest fan. Ernest Hemingway’s spirit has chosen to stay earth-bound, and make this lovely Key West house his afterlife home. Spirits who decide to spend their afterlife in their favorite place in this world, often continue what they loved to do the best while alive. People who take their own lives sometimes stay in this world, choosing to look for the peace they weren’t experiencing while alive. If you board the free Duval Loop Bus, get off at stop number 8 for Whitehead & Petronia. Hemingway’s affair with fellow journalist Pauline Pfeiffer led to the collapse of his marriage to Richardson and their divorce in 1927. Ernest Hemingway Home: His Last Penny & Six Toed Cats

In the bed of the river there were pebbles and boulders, dry and white in the sun, and the water was clear and swiftly moving and blue in the channels. Troops went by the house and down the road and the dust they raised powdered the trees. If you want to impress your friends, you can tell them six toed cats are also known as polydactyl cats. The house was originally built in 1851 in the Spanish Colonial style of architecture popular in Key West in those days. One of the most unique features of the grounds is the two-piece water fountain, the base of which was once a functioning urinal at Hemingway’s favorite Key West bar, Sloppy Joe’s Bar. When the venue moved locations in 1937, Hemingway remarked to the owner that he had spent enough money at the bar to own a small piece of it; in return, he was gifted the colorful, flower-patterned urinal.

The Outbuildings and Property Layout

The house has been preserved with much of its original furniture and artwork, giving visitors an idea of what life may have been like for Hemingway during his time there. It is a reminder of the many works he wrote while living in Key West, including To Have and Have Not, which was largely set in Key West. Nestled in the heart of Key West, Florida, the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum stands as a tribute to the literary giant’s profound legacy.

Our Cats

The town was reinvented by developers as a tourist holiday spot, which was terribly disappointing to Hemingway. The city government of Key West folded up, and control of the town was taken over by the Florida state government. New folks moved in who were inspired to make Key West an attractive tourist destination, bringing their noise, and annoying habits in the process. Ernest also liked to drink hard and sometimes strayed from his marriages when they became strained.

Museum is open everyday.

To construct the first in-ground pool in Key West, solid coral had to be excavated with picks and sledgehammers. The only pool within 100 miles, it measured 24 feet by 60 feet and was filled with 80,000+ gallons of salt water which had to be drilled because there was no running water (at the time). Jerry Joyce has been a Florida resident since 1988 and has lived in a variety of places in the South Florida area.

There he wrote the nonfiction Green Hills of Africa (1935), the novel To Have and Have Not (1937), and the short stories “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” and “The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber” (both 1936). This house-turned-museum at 907 Whitehead Street, which once brimmed with Hemingway’s creative spirit, now opens its doors daily to the public, offering guided tours and a glimpse into the author’s Key West lifestyle. Within these walls, Hemingway penned literary classics such as “A Farewell to Arms” and “To Have and Have Not,” the latter inspired by the surroundings of the Depression-era Florida Keys. The lush grounds, the preserved living quarters, and the intimate access to Hemingway’s personal artifacts all combine to celebrate the author’s enduring influence on literature and American culture. Ernest Miller Hemingway (/ˈɜːrnɪst ˈhɛmɪŋweɪ/; July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American novelist, short-story writer and journalist. Best known for an economical, understated style that significantly influenced later 20th-century writers, he is often romanticized for his adventurous lifestyle, and outspoken and blunt public image.

“He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish,’’ is the first sentence. In addition to its historical significance, the Ernest Hemingway House also serves as a reminder of one of America’s most iconic authors and his lasting impact on literature. Throughout the year, the museum hosts various workshops and learning events to delve into specific aspects of Hemingway’s works. Scholars and literary experts lead these sessions, fostering a deeper understanding of literary techniques and historical contexts. The property layout includes several outbuildings that serve as functional extensions of the main house. These structures adhere to the home’s Spanish Colonial style and are strategically placed to maintain the integrity of the overall design.

The Ernest Hemingway Home is located in Old Town Key West at 907 Whitehead Street, approximately 0.8 miles from Mallory Square.

The cats with extra toes that you find at the Hemingway Home in Key West are called polydactyl cats. Ernest Hemingway received a white six-toed cat named Snow White as a gift by a ship captain. Some of the cats that live on the ground today are descendants of the original cat.

Upon his arrival in Key West in April 1928, the first order of business was to locate the new Ford Roadster that Pauline Hemingway’s wealthy Uncle Gus had so generously purchased for the newlywed couple. Hemingway continued to travel throughout the 1930s for both work and pleasure. A two-month African safari in 1933 left him dangerously ill but provided both the inspiration for his famed short story “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” and trunks full of animal trophies, put on display in Key West. When Hemingway left to report on the Spanish Civil War in 1937, Pfeiffer decided to surprise him by building a pool, the first to be built on Key West. Hemingway, however, seemed less than pleased by the gesture — furious over the cost (more than $340,000 in today’s money), he threw a penny into the unfinished pool, noting that Pfeiffer might as well have taken his last cent.

When the Cuban revolution erupted in 1959, he moved to Idaho with Mary, where he stayed until his death. He wrote some of his best work, such as “To Have and Have Not” in his studio loft, located on the second floor in the carriage house just behind the main house. As Ernest wrote with pencils, his sister Sunny and his wife Pauline, would type his manuscripts for him. The home was built in 1851 and was lived in by Hemingway and his family from 1931 to 1939. Now a public museum, the two-storey Spanish Colonial house still retains its original limestone façade and reclaimed cheery yellow shutters.

About 50 cats lived on the property while Hemingway lived there, and the same number is maintained at the museum today. Hemingway was inspired by the folklore legend to begin collecting the polydactyl cats. A photo in the dining room of the Hemingway House and Museum shows the writer’s sons Gregory and Patrick holding Snowball, the first of the family’s six-toed cats.

Key West, Florida, offered Hemingway a retreat where he penned notable manuscripts. His time here included frequent visits to Sloppy Joe’s, a local bar, and his experiences in the Florida Keys and Cuba influenced many of his novels. Hemingway’s literary contributions included a distinctive style characterized by understated dialogue and a focus on stoic, masculine characters. His contributions to literature include classics like A Farewell to Arms, For Whom the Bell Tolls, and The Snows of Kilimanjaro.
